1) “Westerland” – Die Ärzte
Westerland is a well-known music among Germans, played by the punk group Die Ärzte. Launched in 1988, months before the fall of the Berlin Wall, the album “Das ist nicht die ganze Wahrheit …” (“This is not the whole truth…”), it was very successful with the Westerland track. This song makes references to parts of the city, like the Wannsee and Nordsee lakes and the river Spree. Each month the Cassiopeia club organizes a party called “Forever Young”, in which this music is often played. The reaction of the Germans who are in the range of 25 to 40 years is very contagious and worth checking out this event!
2) “80 Millionen” – Max Giesinger
A recent song about love. In his pop / rock style music 80 Millionen is one of the most played on German radio. The song tells the story of a person who found his beloved among the 80 million Germans. It’s a great song to practice the numbers, because it uses the number of people to compose rhymes, including the almost 4 million people in our beloved Berlin!
3) “Lass uns gehen” – Revolverheld
A beautiful song which proves that the German language can be rather sung and sound good to our ears. The song speaks of those who will pursue their dreams, whether in Hamburg, Cologne or Berlin! 🙂
4) “Ich hab noch einen Koffer in Berlin” – Marlene Dietrich
The diva Marlene Dietrich was very successful in the 60s and is often compared to Juliette Greco in France. The singer has several songs that pay homage to the city of Berlin. For lovers of the golden years, this is a great tip to relive this time and enjoy the beautiful songs, with lyrics full of meaning.
5) “Kreuzberg am Meer” – Marteria, Miss Platnum & Yasha
A remixed hip-hop packs the Kreuzberg beat am Meer. The music brings in its lyrics the multicultural life in Kreuzberg, one of the coolest hipster neighborhoods in Berlin.
