Program for Doctors in Germany

There are certain specific courses for doctors in Germany who wish to practice their profession in the country. This is an excellent option for those professionals who seek some experience abroad and want to have a chance to develop their careers in a different country. The renowned Goethe-Institut has, in particular, a program for these people, in the friendly city of Freiburg.

The continuing education program of the Goethe-Institut was developed in collaboration with the University Clinic of Freiburg. It is offered for doctors from other countries who are preparing to work in a German clinic. The goal of the program is to improve communication skills for interaction with patients and colleagues and gain familiarity with the standard procedures of German hospitals. It consists of two coordinated modules to effectively continue their studies.

In the first module, the institute offers participants instructions for communication in the medical area. These include, among others: medical vocabulary, the structure of the German health system, reports and case records, physical examinations, the presentation of the patient, medication, patient interviews and written documentation / physician letters. The module has a duration of about four weeks and prior knowledge is required in the German language equivalent to the level C1 (first advanced level).

The second module is full time and includes the opportunity to follow a local doctor and participate in hands-on tutorials. Through a complete schedule, participants can gain insight into hospital care and outpatient procedures. Language skills acquired in the first module are practiced while participating in clinical processes every day under the supervision of local doctors. In the tutorials, these skills are explored in greater depth. This module also has a four-week duration, with a workload of 120 hours.
