Die Neue Schule
Die Neue Schule was founded in 1984 and is one of the biggest and best-known language schools in Berlin.
The school is situated in the district ofCharlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, in a quiet residential area near two underground stations and can also be easily reached by several bus routes.
Thirty-one comfortable and bright classrooms, a media room and a large library right beside theGerman language school help to create a productive learning atmosphere.
All our teachers teach their natives languages and are carefully chosen according to their academic background and language abilities, as well as the way they interact with and relate to their students. The professional and personal competence of all our teachers is most important to us.
A short 15-minute walk takes you to the city centre (west) of Berlin, the Kurfürstendamm and its sidestreets, where you can find numerous cafes, galleries and flamboyant boutiques. There is a public transport link to Potsdamer Platz, Friedrichstraße, Friedrichshain and Prenzlauer Berg. All these places can be reached in less than 30 minutes!
The atmosphere in the language school is international, open and very friendly.
Die Neue Schule has German courses running simultaneously and year round in levels A1 through C2 of the Common European Framework.
They offer twelve levels of German Intensive Course Type A simultaneously. In this way homogenous groups and speedier progress during the language course can be guaranteed.
Those students with previous knowledge of German should take a placement test. This test will ensure that you are placed in the appropriate level.
In small groups of an average size of eight participants (a maximum of 12 students), and the focus is on the four language skills (listening comprehension, reading, writing and speaking). An optimal mix of language knowledge (vocabulary and structure) and practical skills(communicative skills) is stressed and an excess of passive vocabulary is avoided.
Three German tests are given throughout the language course: At the end of Level B1: the basic exam (the European Certificate B1); at the end of Level B2: the Intermediate 1 Exam (European Certificate B2); and at the end of Level C1: the Intermediate 2 Exam (European Certificate C1). Upon admission to a Standard German Course, it is possible for the participant to apply for a student visa.
The classes are taken from Monday to Friday (9 am to 12:15 pm or 2:30 pm to 5:45 pm). The Standard Course offers 20 lessons per week.

In addition to Standard Course, the student participates twice a week in communication courses (from 12:45 – 14:15) with a focus on German conversation and listening comprehension.
The advantage of this type of German course is that the approach is even more communicative than otherwise. In the small afternoon conversation groups (on average eight participants) the students discuss many fascinating topics and thus practice their communicative skills and compentence.

You can choose between various fields of interest such as Business (Business German), Culture, History, Berlin, Literature, or Theater. In each case the main focus is the discussion of these topics.

Host Family
A carefully selected host family can be the ideal complement to your German course, because you naturally learn a lot more when you also have the chance to speak German outside of your course. In this case you would move into your own room in an apartment where not only you, but also the German host is living. This could be a single person, a couple, or a family. Sometimes several language students live with one host family. In either case, you will learn a lot about the country and the people, and you make new friends.
